This had not been my first work as a Servant. In fact, I had been one of the top ranked of my class. My whole life, I wanted to help people. I always helped my twin sister when we were together. But, sadly, we separated when I was 10. I was now 18. Faint memories of her danced in my dreams. I wonder when I would see her again? I would ask myself. I honestly had lost complete hope of seeing her again.
As I walked down the palace corridor, I felt an eerie feeling. Like a feeling of reminiscence was coming. The corridor was large and quiet. The sun shined in from the windows, bleaching the tiled floor. I adjusted my vest and dress shirt, attempting to look a bit fancy. Down the hall, I could hear the light sound of talking and evening chatter. I turned left down a split off of the corridor and was greeted by a, rather large, White and gold door. I smiled to myself. Never been in a place this fancy I ponder to myself. I walked to the door and used the door knocker. The sound echoed in my ears. Then, a man with a very impressive handlebar mustache poke his head out of the door. He smiled, showing his yellow teeth.
“Hello, good sir! you must be the Servant we requested.” He bellowed. I nodded to him. “That’s me,” I bow, my blonde hair falling in front of my face, “Lain, at your Service.” He clapped his hands together, “Right oh! come on in.” He motioned me inside. I stepped inside with him. “The duchess has been eagerly awaiting your arrival.” Said the handlebar. “Duchess?” I asked him. He clapped his hands again, “Why yes, she was the one in fact that wanted to hire a Servant.” I nodded to him.
We entered a ball room. The windows all around shined onto the floor, making a sunlight effect, blinding me. I covered my eyes from the piercing light. “Miss Victoria!” Shouted the Man, “You’ll go blind if you keep the windows open!” He rushed over and closed the blinds quickly. “Oh, sorry Yorick,” Said a high, sweet, female voice. That Voice I thought to myself. My eyes adjusted to the light and I looked around. The ballroom was huge, with a beautiful chandelier and amazing pattern on the floor. Then, something caught my eye. A girl; The Duchess. “Now, I’ll leave you two to introduce yourselves.” Said Yorick. He dashed out the door, humming a tune. The door slammed, then, Silence.
I saw her, and she saw me. She got up and scampered over to me. “Hello there!” she beamed, “I’m Victoria, the Duchess of-” she stopped and stared at me. My mind exploded. She had blond hair, the same length of mine. Her face, was the same shape as mine. And her eyes, Bright blue, such as mine. I dropped my coat, that I was currently holding. She took a few steps closer. “L-Lain...?” her voiced echoed. I felt my cheeks go warm, tears stain my eyes. “Sister…?” I said. Suddenly, she ran over and tackled me to the floor. I lost my balance and toppled to the floor. I heard her loud sobs mixed with joyous laughs. I wrapped my arms around her and hugs her tight.
“I can’t believe it’s you.” She said, head against my chest. I smiled and patted her head. She tilted her head, her eyes bright with joy. I pressed my head against her forehead. She giggled lightly. “I missed you.” I said, quietly. She finally got off me and smiled. She stood and brushed off her dress. I got on one knee and reached out for her hand. “I devote my life to serve and protect you. As a Servant, and as a Brother.” I stared at her soft hand. “You are my Duchess and I am your Servant,” I kissed her hand, “for the sake of protecting you,” I stared deep into her eyes, “I would gladly turn Evil.”
Just then, the door opened a crack. Yorick popped his head in. “Come along! Lain, Victoria.” He said, happy as could be. I turned to him, nodded, and started walking. Victoria grabbed my hand and intertwined our fingers and started following me.
The day went smoothly. I gave her mid evening meal, brushed her hair, sorted her clothes, etcetera. I had a smiled on my face the whole day. My emotions were fluttering in my skull. My head felt light from my joyous reunion with my long lost sister. I hadn’t felt that happy in some time. My life was turning around. Some time later, when it got dark, I tucked her in for body. “Lain?” She asked me, her face cracking a smile. I turned in her direction, acknowledging her question. “Did you really me what you said?” She asked softly. I laid my hand on the side of her cheek, “Of course, Victoria. I meant every word.” I smiled and patted her cheek. Victoria nodded to me and yawn. “Goodnight, Duchess.” I said, blowing out the candle.
I exited her room and shut the door quietly. Then, as I turned, Yorick greeted me. “Good evening, lain,” He bowed to me, “How goes the Duchess.” I nodded to her. “Asleep.” I said, turning to the door. He face changed to a straight one. I hadn’t seen him in this state up until now. “I’m glad you are here and you are welcome here among the royalty, but, sir,” He placed his hand on my shoulder, “Do watch over her. she can be a bit,...Drastic.” I shook my head and bowed, “You have my word, she will be in the safest of hands, sir.” Yorick nodded once, then turned back down the hallway. I sighed and walked back to the Servant’s study.
I relaxed in my chair and grabbed a book. I read silently. After a while, I placed down my book and was about ready to turn in. But, as I got up, the door creaked open. Victoria stood there in her night gown. “What’s wrong, Sister?” I asked, smiling to her. She looked up to me with tired eyes. “Horrible dream,” she stammers over to me, “Can I lay with you?” I sigh deeply with a smile. “Only for you, Duchess.” I said, taking her hand. We walked over to the chair and sat down. She sat on my lap and rested her head on my shoulder. I laid my head on her’s and drifted off. I was at peace. With her. I was at peace.
